The camper van is an integral part of the Milanese way of holidaying. The area, city and hinterland have the highest concentration of recreational Italian registered vehicles. This way of travelling is obviously supported by an elevated number of specialised sales points, some which are the most well equipped on the national territory, that offer  practically all the national and European production ranges.

In fact, it is not by chance that this multiplicity of activities is the essence of one of the most popular trade fair shows of the sector: Italia Vacanze. In the pavilion of the trade show at Novegro, held between February and March every year, enthusiasts can view the most recent offers like vehicles, accessories and itineraries. All this is planned with strategic timing exactly half way through the season in which Italian families start to organise their summer holidays.

The passion for travelling tourism has always been deeply rooted in those who live in the region. It is easy to understand why: Milan is in an ideal position, a natural centre of gravity: within a matter of kilometres one can reach the coastal resorts (like Liguria and northern Tuscany) or the beautiful mountains of the Alpine regions. Plus, in the not too distant north, one can cross the border and drive into the Central European terrain.

This closeness to nature, and its natural location as a multi-faceted city that plays an international role, makes Milan the first natural stopover destination for the tourists arriving from northern regions. For example, statistics state that the Germans (the largest camping enthusiast nation in Europe) place Italy at the top of the list of preferred holiday destinations and some of the favoured locations, apart obviously from the coastal areas, are the main cities of art, amongst which Milan, with its myriad of attractions, takes the leading role.

It is also worth keeping in mind the option of renting. This facilitates travelling tourism for the foreigners who decide to arrive at Linate or Malpensa, the major Milanese airports, and who then wish to holiday around the mountains, lakes and surrounding plains with a recreational vehicle.
